Article 27 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) demands the right to work and that arrangements are made to ensure that people with disabilities have equal opportunities of employment.

The EU strategy 2010-20 determines strategies and interventions to ensure approaches to work for these people.

Article 24 guarantees the right of inclusive education in all ranks, including University and livelong learning, explicitly for people with mental health problems.

According to a German Research „approximately half of the people suffering from chronicle mental health problems in the working age are out of work and out of employ.“(2004 Aktion psychisch Kranke: 20). The number of people, which received pensions due to mental health problems doubled between 2000 and 2010 (compare BMAS 2013: 382).

European residents who suffer from mental health problems are often socially isolated, unemployed, stuck in the role of being a patient and a recipient of services and have little opportunity of rehabilitation.
